In 1999, Rockstar games was born after the BMG games was taken over by Take-Two Interactive. The company is well-known for its Grand Theft Auto series.
In 2014, Rockstar sold over 250 million copies of their games. The sales doubled in 2016 when the firm shipped 250 million copies of the Grand Theft Auto series alone. Rockstar also takes responsibility for the highly popular Red Dead series.
Activision and Blizzard are two monsters of the gaming industry, which are responsible for some popular games. Activision is famous for the Tony Hawk franchise and the Call of Duty first-person shooter franchise. Meanwhile, Blizzard is well known for the massively multiplayer online game World of Warcraft.
They merged in 2017 to become Activision Blizzard and created more highly popular games such as Overwatch and Destiny.
As a member of the Fortune 500, Activision Blizzard earned a revenue of $7.5 billion in 2018.
Tim Sweeney founded Potomac Computer Systems in 1997 when he was learning at the University of Maryland. Potomac was then turned into Epic MegaGames as an effort to make this person studio seem larger.
With such attempts, Epic MegaGames had 50 staff by 1997. One year later, they developed the first-person shooter game Unreal and the first iteration of the Unreal engine. At this point, they cut the “Mega” to become Epic games. After that, they created the highly popular shooter Unreal Tournament and the more popular Gears of War series.
In 2012, the company switches to the new “games as a service” business model and released a new game called Fortnite. However, it was not until 2017 that Fortnite was publicized officials. Prior to the release of main game, the firm published a free battle royale mode for the game.
Before the release of Fortnite, Epic Game’s value estimated at $825 million. However, it valued at $4.5 billion by July 2018.
